USHER IN RAMADHAN
It is SLIGHTLY A WEEK AWAY in Kenya. An ANNUAL MOMENT that we have been WAITING FOR. IT’S the time when PIETY INCREASES more than you can EXPECT. The STINGY ONES FLEX THEIR FINGERS in surrender. The STRANGERS of the MOSQUES literally VISIT THEM to seek for a DESERVING RECONCILIATION with God of Mercy. But BEFORE we get to the ACTUAL FASTING which goes without saying, let me DRAW YOUR ATTENTION to the PERENNIAL NON-TERMINATING DEBATE, in which we always ENGAGE OURSELVES.
WHO is BETTER SUITED to CALL THE SHOTS for the laity to start fasting? Is it ANYTHING to do with HEREDITARY POSITIONING for calling the shots? Is it a LOCATIONAL DUTY for the OBVIOUS? And could our SENSELESS NORM be in CONTRAVENTION of the MASTER HIMSELF? Of course, BEDOUINES are not known for COURTESY or even ETHICS. Their ROUGH NATURE is second to none. They ONLY HAVE one way to HANDLE stuff. It’s EITHER THEIR WAY or NO WAY. But what COULD MAKE our Noble Prophet BELIEVE THIS BEDOUIN instantly without looking into his background? He had NO PAPERS, no noble LINEAGE, no FINANCIAL BACKING, and NOT EVEN a CELEBRITY.
What MATTERED to the noble Prophet was his SHAHADA and Bilal was assigned already to SHOUT HIS VOICE HIGH for all to hear and do the NECESSARY. As we USHER IN this beautiful moment, may the CLERGY PLEASE SPARE us your DRAMA and SUPERIORITY COMPLEX, and let us fast in peace WITH fewer TANTRUMS. We will really appreciate it. Thank you.
Ibn ‘Abbas (RAA) narrated, ‘A Bedouin came to the Prophet and said, ‘I have sighted the crescent (of Ramadan). He then said to him, “Do you testify that there is none worthy of worship but Allah?” The Bedouin said, ‘Yes.’ He asked him again, “Do you testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ)?” The man replied, ‘Yes.’ The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) thereupon said, “O Bilal! Announce to the people to (start) fasting tomorrow.” Related by the five Imams. Ibn Khuzaimah and Ibn Hibban graded it as Sahih. An-Nasa’i said that it is most probably Mursal (a Hadith in which the link between the Successor (Tabi’i) and the Prophet (ﷺ) is missing.
